There is no one in the entire castle as polite as Mei, not even those from the strictest pureblooded families of Slytherin. Manners were both bred into her and have been drilled into her head since she can remember. As such, she speaks incredibly formally to both those in positions of authority and those that she considers equals, like those in her dorm. Underneath those manners, however, is a girl that is very unsure of just who she is. She knows how she’s supposed to behave, how she’s supposed to treat people, but she is constantly wondering if her interests are her interests because she actually likes them or because that’s what’s expected of her. Her self-doubt has recently caused her grades to slide a bit, something her parents are very unhappy about, to the point that they are threatening to write the headmaster to try to take away her prefect’s badge, one of the few accomplishments that Mei is actually proud of, one she is sure is entirely hers.
